A person’s undertone is the tone which shows up under their skin tone.  There are warm, cool and neutral undertones.   Your skin tone could be dark brown, and you can have either warm or cool or neutral undertones.  The same applies to persons with very light skin.

To check your undertone, turn your hand with the palm facing you. If your veins are blue, you have cool undertones.  If your veins are green, you have warm undertones.  If your veins look like they are a combination of green and blue you have neutral undertones.

When having a hair color service done, knowing what type of undertones you have assists your Hairdresser in coloring your hair to suit your natural undertones.

For example, if you have warm undertones your hair color should reflect warmth as in red, copper or yellow tones of hair color.  If on the other hand, you have cool undertones, your hair color should reflect ash tones like blue or violet.  Persons with neutral undertones can easily wear warmth or cool hair colors.
